Medicine for Life.

Medicine for Movement.

Compassionate care. Evidence-based medicine. A healthier, more active you.

Welcome to the practice of Dr Marisna Venter, where family medicine meets a passion for movement, prevention and lifelong wellbeing.

Based in the beautiful Hermanus, Dr Venter offers comprehensive general medical care with a special interest in paediatrics, women’s health, and sport and exercise medicine.

Whether you’re navigating a health concern, caring for your family, managing a chronic condition or working towards your next sporting goal, you deserve medical care that sees the whole person - not just the symptoms.

Your health. Your journey. Your doctor.

A different approach to healthcare

Because good medicine is about more than treating illness.

At Dr Marisna Venter’s practice, healthcare is built on meaningful relationships, clinical excellence and a genuine interest in the people behind the medical records.

We believe in listening before prescribing, understanding before diagnosing, and empowering patients through education and shared decision-making.

Our approach combines the foundations of general practice with the evolving science of sport, exercise and preventive medicine.

From childhood through adulthood, from everyday health concerns to complex sporting challenges, the goal remains the same: to help you feel better, function better and live healthier.

Not just adding years to life, but adding life to years.

Dr Marisna Venter

Doctor. Mother. Runner. Lifelong learner. Passionate advocate for healthier living.

I am a medical doctor with a passion for people, movement and the remarkable capacity of the human body to adapt, heal and thrive.

I graduated with my MBChB from the University of Pretoria in 2010 and have since gained broad experience in general practice, alongside more than a decade of involvement in sportsmedicine and sporting events.

Driven by my passion for the science of movement and its role in health, I pursued further postgraduate studies at the University of Cape Town, completing the academic component of my MPhil in Sport and Excerise Medicine, with my dessertation loading.

My professional journey has taken me from everyday consultations in general practice to the sidelines of professional rugby matches, international cricket events, endurance races and school sporting fields.

But regardless of the setting, the part of medicine I value most has never changed: the privilege of being trusted with someone’s health.

As a mother, runner and former provincial hockey player, I understand that health is not simply the absence of disease. It is the ability to participate fully in the things that give our lives meaning.

I bring that perspectice into every consultation, combining scientific knowledge with practical, individualised care.

I believe that excellent medicine requires curiosity, compassion, honesty and the willingness to keep learning.

Most importantly — I believe patients should feel comfortable asking questions, expressing concerns and actively participating in decisions about their health.

Why Medicine?

I have always been fascinated by the human body — how it works, how it heals, how it adapts and how seemingly small changes can have a profound impact on our health.

But what makes medicine truly meaningful to me is the human connection.

Being a doctor gives me the opportunity to walk alongside people through some of life's most vulnerable, challenging and rewarding moments.

It is about reassuring an anxious parent, helping someone make sense of a difficult diagnosis, supporting a woman through a new phase of life, or guiding an injured athlete back to the sport they love.

I love the science of medicine, but I equally value the art of listening, understanding and caring.

Over the years, I have become increasingly passionate about preventive healthcare and the role of physical activity in protecting our physical and mental wellbeing.

I believe we should not have to wait until we become unwell to start investing in our health.

For me, medicine has always been about people first.

My goal is to practise medicine that is personal, practical and proactive — helping people not only recover from illness, but build healthier lives.

That is the kind of doctor I strive to be.
